1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include local and session storage, mobile app preferences, app instance identifiers, push tokens, pixels, tags, scripts and software development kits (SDKs) that store or access information on your device.
2. Our approach
What’s That Car Club uses strictly necessary cookies and browser storage where needed to provide login, security, accessibility settings, account tools, club administration, booking features, messages, marketplace features and cookie preference storage.
We only use analytics, marketing or other non-essential cookies where you have given consent through the cookie banner or preference controls. Optional categories are not pre-selected, and you can reject optional cookies and still use the core site.
In the Android app, optional Firebase Analytics is disabled by default and is enabled only when you switch on “Help improve the app” in Account settings. Necessary authentication, security, database, storage, notification and preference functions operate separately from that optional analytics choice.

4. Examples of technologies used
- cookie_consent: stores your cookie preference choice.
- Firebase Authentication and related browser storage: keeps signed-in users authenticated and protects account access.
- What’s That Car Club accessibility storage: remembers font size, contrast and reduced-motion preferences.
- Firebase database and storage services: support account, booking, garage, club and marketplace functionality.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging: uses an app installation token to deliver requested device notifications.
- Firebase Analytics for Android: records app and screen interaction information only after app analytics consent.
- Android app preferences: remember analytics consent and other device-level settings.
- Third-party scripts or CDNs: may load interface libraries, maps, embedded content, analytics or security services where enabled.
The exact cookies and storage items may change as the website is maintained. We update this policy where the cookie position changes materially.
5. Consent and changing your choice
The cookie banner allows you to accept all optional cookies, reject optional cookies, or save selected preferences. Non-essential cookies should not be set before consent unless a legal exemption applies. You can reopen cookie preferences from the footer at any time.
You can clear cookies or block storage in your browser settings. Doing so may sign you out, reset accessibility preferences, remove saved consent choices or stop some site features from working correctly.
In the Android app, open Account settings to enable or disable app analytics. You can also clear the app’s storage or uninstall it, although this may sign you out, remove local preferences and reminders, and stop notifications. Withdrawing consent stops future optional analytics collection; previously generated aggregated reports may remain.
6. Third-party services
Some third-party services, such as Google Firebase, authentication providers, maps, CDNs or embedded content providers, may process technical information in accordance with their own privacy notices. Their availability, security and use of information are governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for independent third-party websites or services outside our reasonable control, but this does not remove responsibilities we have under data-protection or consumer law.
